What Makes Your Life More Beautiful

HelenKeller Quote.jpg 1936×2592 pixels e1344941957928 588x444 What Makes Your Life More Beautiful

My almost 3 year old daughter found this sweet treasure on the beach while hunting for seashells.

It’s the skinny on beautiful…

On what we think was somebody’s bookmark, is a quote:
“The most beautiful world is always entered through imagination.”  – Helen Keller -

I thought how perfect this beach find was right before I left for the BlogHer conference in New York City.  It was like finding a message in a bottle.  Martha Stewart was the keynote speaker and I met so many creative women with Blogs and businesses that started with just a little bit of  imagination.  The imaginations that make their worlds and the worlds of others a little bit more beautiful!

I’ve been blogging since 2008 when I authored my children’s book: Mommy’s High Heel Shoes.  What started as a way to network and promote a book about all the different shoes mommies wear has evolved into this blog Diva Dietitian- The Skinny on Nutrition.  I’m also preparing to launch a kids food website: KidsLoveFood.com in the fall.

It’s ironic how I wrote a book to help moms and kids feel good about being or having a working Mom when I really wasn’t feeling passionate about a career I was quickly outgrowing.   Looking back, I was just going through the motions of working a job (Pharmaceutical/Biotech sales) that really wasn’t my true passion in life.  I had to travel a lot, missed my kids and felt at times like the over paid unappreciated pest calling on physicians who got/get way too many visits from sales reps on any given day.  When I traveled, I went to great places and stayed in fancy hotels (although rarely saw life outside the conference room.)  I had money to buy stylish clothes and was a regular at Starbucks- Grande Mocha Frap No Whip Please.  My cell phone was my best friend and tweeting became a social outlet.  The reality-I was alone most of the day in my car missing my kids, missing something else in my life…

Although the job looked glamorous to some, it did not make me really feel happy or at all beautiful.   Beautiful is more than just looking good on the outside.  It’s feeling good and doing what makes you happy and healthy on the inside as well.  It’s doing things that make you smile and laugh.  It’s doing things that allow you to use your imagination.  It’s about nourishing your soul.

I think sometimes it takes a while to figure out what you are really passionate about in life & what will make your life more beautiful.   For me, it’s my kids, family, being creative AND food- in particular helping others learn how food can not only help them look better, but feel better and lead healthier lives.  Managing my own nutrition consulting business & running my websites allows me to do just that.  I let’s me be creative, make my own schedule, use my imagination and spend more time with my family.  It makes my world more beautiful!

What makes your world more beautiful?

Post BlogHer Toes Recovering in the Sand

BlogHer12 toes in the sand Post BlogHer Toes Recovering in the Sand

Woo- what a whirlwind of a week at the BlogHer 2012 conference in New York City.  I attended the meeting this past week/weekend with over 4000 other women bloggers and brands from all over the country.

I did leave early Saturday though so I could get back in plenty of time for my little one’s third birthday, which we celebrated on the beach yesterday (Yes, these are her pretty pink toes with mine in the picture!)

I’ll post a re-cap about my #BlogHer12 adventure later tonight or tomorrow.  My toes are still recovering from  walking around the Expo and exploring NYC in my  high heel shoes.

I’m happy to be home!

Blender Bottle Perfect for Protein Shakes

Anyone who is using protein powders needs a Blender Bottle.  How many times have you taken a sip of your protein shake only to get a mouthful of  protein powder?  I have done that and I agree it’s gross!  The Blender Bottle has a metal ball in the bottom that helps disperse the powder when you shake the bottle getting rid of clumps.  The Blender Bottle is found in a variety of health stores and online.  I picked my Blender Bottle up a Wegmans.  Below is an example of protein powder before and after shaking.

You never know what you will stumble upon at the New Jersey Shore.

Wondering if ocean potion is a beach cocktail, happy hour advertisement or if there is a Genie in a bottle around here somewhere…

Mama Deer Nursing 3 Baby Deer

deerinbuckscounty 1024x1024 Mama Deer Nursing 3 Baby Deer

On my way to the park this evening with my 3 kids, three baby deer ran in front of our car.

We stopped a moment to watch them scoot over to their Mommy waiting in the field across the road.

At first, they were just happily playing. But at second glance, Mama deer stopped, looked right at me and let her babies nurse a while.  We were staring at each other.  Just two moms of three.  She was probably scared and worried wondering what the heck I was doing hanging out of the window pointing something (my iPhone) at her.  I was in awe like I was watching a Disney movie.

We see deer all of the time in Bucks County.

We worry about hitting them while we drive, how they may eat our gardens and flowers or that they carry Lymes disease.  But to see a mama deer just playing and taking care of her babies like we did tonight doesn’t happen often.  Watching them was a reminder of how really simple life can be.

While my picture is not the best, notice the sun shining down from heaven on these sweet animals.

The Weight is Over Menu at Local Restaurant

A few weeks ago I wrote about a local restaurant in Haddonfield, New Jersey that offers a menu for weight loss surgery patients.  Ralic’s Steakhouse offers The Weight is Over Menu .  Last night my husband and I met at Ralic’s for dinner.  We both had a wonderful dinner and dining experience.   I enjoyed an appetizer, entree, and dessert from The Weight is Over Menu.  We also enjoyed a wonderful conversation with David Ralic, owner of Ralic’s Steakhouse, who had a sleeve gastrectomy.

My husband says that he will also try the Weight is Over Menu at our next visit.  This is a great restaurant for bariatric surgery patients.  For those of you in Pennsylvania, look for a Ralic’s opening on our side of the Delaware soon!!  I’m thinking support group outing…

This is what I chose and loved all of it!

Appetizer: 1 oz Crab Cake with an Avocado and Tomato chutney (loved the avocado!)

Entree: 4 oz pan seared Chicken Breast with Sweet Potato Smash and sauteed Edamame (chicken was tender, loved the sweet potato and edamame combo!)

Dessert: Sugar Free Chocolate Hazelnut Tart

Complimentary Unsweetened Iced Tea in a tiny glass!!
